I was In my case it was the fan belt tensioner. Could only hear this noise, when accelerating. But it took some time to figure it out. You can remove the fan belt, and let the engine run for a few seconds. If the rattle is gone: one of the pulleys is causing it, or the tensioner. There is no Ford procedure for rebuilding the bottom end, so you have to adapt to rebuild it yourself. I paid $185 for it, but actually $245 because I haven't turned in my core. Against Toms advice I skipped the stage 3 cams, springs, and gears.
