The 24-200 is already at F/6.3 by about 85mm so the 24-120 is giving you a stop and a third more light at portrait focal lengths (and of course less DoF that is sometimes desirable). On the flip side 120 vs 200 is quite a significant difference in reach.
The 24-70mm 2.8 is obviously the most popular work horse lens it seems for wedding shooters but I was wondering if the 24-120mm f4 vr would be a major step down? The images I have seen on various sites seems to show it is quite capable as a workhorse lens plus about $600 cheaper and I have 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and 80-200mm 2.8D in the arsenal
In terms of weight, the Nikon Z 24-70mm f/4 S weighs 500 grams (1.1 pounds), while the Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4 S weighs 630 grams (1.4 pounds) – yes, the 24-70mm f/4 S wins, but it’s not a dramatic difference. The 24-70mm f/4 S is a bit more portable, but the size difference is only about 2 cm (3/4 inch). This is an in-depth review of the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens that was released back in August of 2007 together with the 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens. I have owned a number of different copies of the Nikon 24-70mm for many years, pretty much from the day the lens was announced and I have probably spent the most amount of time in the field shooting I had the 24-120, ended up selling it and getting the 24-70 f/2.8 (not the VR). I actually miss the 24-120 to some extent, I thought the IQ was just fine. I shoot shows, low light, so I need the f/2.8 and the faster AF. The AF is the biggest difference I noticed. But, for walkaround, I would take the 24-120 if I still had it.
1 Hi, I already own the 24-70 f/2.8 S and was thinking to trade it for the 24-120 f/4 S for landscapes. Is this a crazy idea? I can't find any detailed comparisons between the two lenses yet. Does anyone have experiences with both? I also own the 14-24 f/2.8 S + 100-400 on order.

4. After the November 2018 comparison, between 24-120mm and Sigma 135mm ART. This time, I compared the small nikkor AF-S 85mm f / 1.8 G. Again, I was curious to see the overall quality of the 24-120 at 85mm f 4 compared to the Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 at full aperture and f/4. If it may interest other users of 24-120mm, or nikkor 85mm f / 1.8G.

These lenses shine at f5.6-f8 and give a new benchmark for "kit" lenses. After seeing this video I feel completely comfortable trading in the 24-70mm f4 then add the 24-200mm and 20mm f1.8 for a two lens kit.
The new price of the 24-120mm f4 is a bit high. Second hand and in kit very good price. Nano coating delivers slightly better colours (sublte effect), reduces flare quite a bit. The 24-120mm has slightly (again subtle) image quality gain versus the shorter zoom, but has a bit more distortion (easy to correct). Autofocus is faster on the F4 zoom. Eugene, This lens exists. It is just coming to Z-mount. You can direct compare the 24-120 vs Sigma 24-105. If you check enough reviews that have numerical test results between a few lenses you can extrapolate the 35-150 is optically better than the 24-120. MTF charts also. 24-120 is very good for its class, but not outstanding overall. NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 120mm, ISO 64, 1/40, f/4.0. On the flip side, the Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR has the longer 200mm focal length that many photographers crave. I personally chose to buy the 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR for my own landscape photography, so that I can carry a lightweight two-lens kit that reaches from 14mm to 200mm For travel, zoo, and other out and about shooting, I’d take the 24-120 any day of the week - the extra range is definitely more useful than the extra stop when you’ve got sunlight to work with. The 24-70 f/2.8 (and by extension the 28-75 f/2.8) is a surprisingly specialized lens.
Nikon's new Z 24-120mm F4 S is a standard zoom lens for the full-frame mirrorless Z mount, intended to offer a more versatile and cheaper alternative to the high-end Z 24-70mm F2.8 S. Providing decent medium telephoto reach, good close focusing capabilities and a lighter, more portable form factor, the Z 24-120mm F4 S should make an ideal carry
